Kips Bay Show House 2015

The last day of my NYC trip was spent exploring the Kips Bay Show House for the Boys and Girls Club. And what a beauty it is!

Here’s just a few pics of the gorgeousness!

Starting at the Foyer (done by Drake Design Associates) I fell in love with these light fixtures that looked like clouds against the stunning polished sky blue ceiling.

So that’s the end of my little tour.  Which room is your favourite? I have to say the bathrooms were outstanding! So hard to pick my favourite.

I have tried to be accurate with my design credits, but if I’ve made a mistake, please let me know and I’ll correct it asap!

And it’s open – Artemano in Ottawa

Artemano’s grand opening last night was a great evening.  Lots of wonderfully dressed people came out to welcome this new store to Ottawa’s design landscape.

Vintage pieces like the door above, mix with the organic.  Btw – I took these pictures about a week before the event so that I got clearer views.

This little desks are just the cutest things.

These bell lanterns had me at HELLO! I am seriously bothering the better half to get one installed at the cottage.

This bedroom was my favourite space, from the textured, stacked wood wall, to the moody blue/gray walls, to the Leonard Cohen quote (which coincidentally I had on my website for many years), to the huge and glamourous mirror, to the dramatic basket lights, and finally to that BED!

It was a great evening, filled with fabulous wine, great food, wonderful live music, and lots of very thrilled Ottawans to have another great furniture store in the Capital.  Thanks to all who attended!

Glass railings and weddings…oh my

Happy Friday Everyone! I’m sorry for the lack of posts here, but with trying to get some client work completed, getting the cottage ready for a wedding, and being saddled with a bad cold, not to mention a shortened work week, it’s been a little crazy.

My hubby did manage to complete the new glass railing at the cottage and it looks as good as I thought it would 🙂

We had a great long weekend at the cottage with all the family and I was thrilled to see that my article that I shared here online, was printed up in the Ottawa Citizen on Saturday.  So fun to see my powder room in print!

And the tent went up this week for the wedding being held here tomorrow. So exciting, we will be checking it out tomorrow to see how it’s all been set up, since two of my children are talking about perhaps getting married here as well 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone! I’ll be back on Monday to share some of my recent mood boards.

Exterior cottage love going on

Well, now with the warmer weather finally here, at least in my neck of the wood, I hope you are enjoying it. School is almost out and I’m sure that is a relief to end all the lunch making, homework checking and routine. Here’s to a great summer for everyone!

I have a bit of progress to report at the cottage.  Hubby has been determined to get the fire table finished, so here’s where we are now, and by we I really mean him.  I’ve done nothing, except help with the design and the finishes…of course 🙂   Can’t wait to try it out.

And I received my fabric order from a few weeks back, so I’ll be sewing up a storm, whenever I can get a second.  These will be exterior cushions for the cottage deck.   Can’t wait for them to liven up the wood chairs, wood deck and log exterior of the cottage….you get the idea…so much wood…and so0000 much brown.

And kind of another exterior update, Hubby got the terracotta tile laid in the sunroom, right at the entrance to the deck.  It still needs to be grouted, I’ll share the progress once it is completed.  He’s been a busy, busy, boy.

While he was working away, I kept myself busy making over this lovely little china cabinet that a neighbour gifted to me.  I know it’s not really related to the cottage exterior theme of this post, but I’d thought I’d share it anyways.  It’s a perfect fit in this somewhat dark corner of the cottage, so I decided it should be a nice bright colour to liven up the corner.  This is how it looked:

And in the process:

I told you it was bright….and quite lively.  I used homemade chalk paint (Cyan Sky) and I will be giving it a going over with some antique wax (which will tone it down a little) and then of course, some clear wax to finish it properly.  I love, love, Fat Wax in case you are looking for a recommendation. Check out their website for locations near you.  I’ll post a picture once it’s completed, hopefully soon.

We also went to the Pontiac Artists’ Studio Tour a few weeks ago. I posted about it last year, when all the TBBs went.  Hubby got an adorable candy dish for his office (sorry forget to snap a pic before he went off with it) but I did get this great shot of an old barn on one of the properties.  There is just something about old, timeworn barns that appeals to me.

Sharing 10 bits of wisdom from Blogpodium

Now  that I’ve digested some of the wisdom imparted upon me at Blogpodium, I thought I’d share the 10 bits of wisdom that I came away with from Sarah Richardson‘s keynote talk.

Design, Create, Empower, Educate, Inspire

Words that every designer should embrace and endeavour to achieve.

Sarah’s key points that spoke to me were –

1. Make it last

2. Create your own signature style. Your point of view/perspective is unique and make sure and celebrate it.

3. Design memorable spaces

4. Make a statement

5. Draw your inspiration from creative and original pieces

6. Infuse the space with some history and soul by using antiques or sentimental pieces

7. Incorporate spirit, textures and whimsey in your rooms. Don’t take yourself or the room too seriously.

8. Experiment, explore and adapt. As designers and decorators know,  Plan B often works out better than Plan A.

9. Your brand is everything and absolutely critical to your success.

10. “Good design is forever.” Zelda Brunschwig

So now that you’re inspired….go create!
