A new welcoming

So now that Spring has finally sprung here in Ontario, it’s all about updating and freshening up.  This past week I was helping a client do just that by giving her entry a new feel.

Some fresh graphic wallpaper is the key piece and it will help make a grand statement to all who arrive.  The new dark hardwood floor and dark mirror will ground the space and complement the soft grey walls.  A hint of silvery metal in the pendant, tray, coat rack and hardware will give a little sparkle.  Texture comes in from the paper, baskets, and mens-wear grey inspired fabric on the ottoman. A classic console and an octagon shaped mirror make a great match and the blue vase and flowers are a little finishing touch to pull in the blues in an adjoining room.

I can’t wait to see it completed!

Foyer Transformation

This foyer was fine but a little boring.  It was given some much needed drama by stenciling the walls and painting the doors a gray/black. A stencil was used to add some much needed texture and pattern to this foyer. It now has personality and is a great introduction to the rest of the home.

This home’s entrance was decluttered and the front door was painted and a large rectangular mirror was added to help enlarge the area.

The continuing transformation

After four years in this home, I have been gradually changing the foyer. Here’s the transformation over the last year or so.   It started out looking something like this.

Okay but “yawn”,  a little boring.  So, I decided to paint the doors black and it looked like this.  Better, but still……

(I did end up painting the closet doors black, later on.)
So, now on to the hopefully, final stage – stenciling.  I had thought of doing wallpaper but I saw this stencil over at Royal Design Studios and loved it and thought that it would look terrific.

After a couple of days painting, here’s the results!

Isn’t it just fabulous!  I so love it!

Now I just need a new welcome mat.  Something with a little more pizazz!

I’ll be linking this post up to Metamorphosis Monday on Between Naps on the Porch.   So on Monday, be sure to check out the other fabulous makeovers and transformations there!
